When we first received sample skeins of Isager Mulberry Silk, the yarn was only available in black and white.  This presented certain limitations on the design, and I had to create a  design that made made the most of those two colours.

Using the Squash design from the book Knitting Needles & Chopsticks as my starting point, I chose to knit this lightweight sweater from the top down, creating softer stripes by pairing each colour with a silver-grey strand of Silk Mohair.

Today, the yarn is available in a wide range of colours, making it possible to create beautiful stripe patterns in countless colour combinations and stripe widths.

It is a wonderfully light and versatile design for anyone who enjoys creating their own unique colour combinations.

CONSTRUCTION
The sweater is worked from the top to bottom using a circular needle. The increases are made at the raglan seams. When the bottom of the armhole is reached, the work is divided into the Sleeves and Body portions. The Body portion is knitted to the desired length. Then, the Sleeves are also knitted to the desired lengths. Lastly, the neckband is knitted.

The sweater is knitted with one strand of Isager Mulberry Silk held together with one strand of Isager Silk Mohair. The sweater in the picture is knitted in Isager Silk Mohair color 3s together with alternating Isager Mulberry Silk colors E0 and Ink, which creates the stripes.

Marianne writes about the design: 

When I travel, I like to bring a simple knitting project with me — something that doesn’t require too much thought. I knitted the first Tuen Sweater on a trip to Japan, using local undyed wool from Uldens Hus (House of Wool), combined with silver-grey Silk Mohair.

The textured stitch pattern is easy and enjoyable to knit. As far as I know, it doesn’t have a name, though it may resemble the Zalmiak pattern. But what should I call the sweater?

I settled on Tuen, the name of a small town nearby, inspired both by the local surroundings and by my current preference for locally sourced yarns.

CONSTRUCTION
The sweater is knitted in the round on circular needles from the bottom up to the armholes. Then, the Front and Back are worked separately back and forth in rows. The shoulder stitches are joined together. Then, the stitches for the Sleeves are picked up along the armholes. The Sleeves are knitted in pattern to the desired length and then are finished with a ribbed cuff band. Finally, the collar is knitted.

The sweater in the photo is knitted in one strand of Isager Merilin colour 31s held together with one strand of Isager Silk Mohair colour 33. 
Isager Merilin can be exchanged with Isager Uld 2, Isager Tvinni, Isager Highland, Isager Kamgarn 1 or Isager Tweed.

Henrichsens Uldspinderi in Skive was established in 1885 and is now run by the sixth generation. It is one of only two remaining commercial spinning mills in Denmark, and the only one that also dyes its own yarn.

The shared history of the two companies dates back to the 1960s, when Marianne Isager’s predecessor, Åse Lund Jensen, initiated the collaboration with the mill. Since then, the partnership has only grown stronger, and the owner of Henrichsens Uldspinderi has now chosen to secure the mill’s future by making it part of Isager ApS. The acquisition will take effect on 1 August.

We expect to have a new factory building ready by the end of 2027, after which the machinery will be relocated to Tversted. At the same time, we will move the mini mill from Uldens Hus (House of Wool) into the main spinning mill.

Production capacity will be significantly expanded, and we hope this will give us more scope to explore colours and yarn qualities. We will also continue our work to make greater use of locally sourced wool.

The spinning mill in Tversted will be designed to allow visits while the machines are running and will become a central part of the Isager knitting destination. Visitors will be able to see sheep and alpacas in the surrounding fields. Inside the mill, they can experience the process of turning fibres into yarn and gain insight into the dyeing facility, where the yarn is coloured.

At Tversted School, courses on yarn and knitting-related topics are offered. The café, Skolekøkkenet, serves lunch, coffee and cake, and accommodation is available in the school’s guest houses. In the Isager shop, visitors can enjoy the beautiful natural fibre yarns and their associated designs.

The factory is expected to be fully operational for both production and guided tours from mid-2028.

​Pearl Tee is a new design by Helga Isager, featuring the same double moss stitch pattern and great fit as her Fabian Sweater.

Pearl Tee is worked top-down with raglan increases. It features refined details such as accentuated rib stitches along the sides and under the sleeves, as well as a neckline finished with a small welt, ribbing, and an Italian bind-off.

It can be knitted in Isager Merilin held together with our new Mulberry Silk or Trio 1.
For a lighter version, it also works beautifully in Isager Bomulin held together with Mulberry Silk.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES
The sweater is worked from the top down. First the sts for the back of the neck are cast on and the neckline is shaped by working back and forth and increasing the number of sts at both sides, while at the same time working raglan increases. After this, the work is joined to be worked in the round and the raglan increases are continued to the bottom of the armholes, where the sts are divided for body and sleeves, which are finished individually.
The edges are worked in rib – incl. the neck edge which is worked at the end using an open cast-on over try-it-on-tubing.

The Light colored version is knitted in one strand of Isager Merilin col. E0 held together with one strand of Isager Mulberry Silk col. Linen

The dark colored version is knitted in Isager Bomulin in color 23 held together with Isager Mulberry Silk color Khaki
One strand of each yarn is held together throughout

Ethvert garn ”løftes” ved at blive strikket sammen med Mulberry Silk. Silken tilføjer blødhed og elegance til ethvert projekt, når den strikkes sammen med andre garner fra Isager sortimentet. Mulberry Silk fungerer særligt godt, når den holdes sammen med Isager Spinni eller Tvinni (100% uld) eller Isager Palet (100 % bomuld), da den giver et smukt, køligt og glansfyldt look, som komplementerer de mere matte garner. Når silken kombineres med uldgarner, tilføjer den blødhed uden det ”langhårede” look som med Isager Silk Mohair. Den egner sig især til lettere tekstiler, tørklæder og babytøj.

INSPIRED BY KAREN BLIXEN’S OUT OF AFRICA
The design Out of Africa draws on Karen Blixen’s time in Africa and the elegant yet functional clothing she wears in the film. The colour palette is muted and natural, with shades of beige, off-white and rose, while the materials – linen and silk – enhance the sense of warmth, light, and the dusty savannah. The light, vertical structure of the jacket is inspired by a sweater worn by Karen Blixen shortly after her arrival at the farm.

CONSTRUCTION
Begin with the two front pieces, which are knitted from the bottom up. The back is then knitted. The shoulders are joined, and stitches are picked up along the armholes so that the sleeves are knitted from the armhole outwards to the desired length. Finally, the sleeve and side seams are sewn together using mattress stitch from the right side, and the front edges are joined at the back of the neck.

YARN
The jacket can be knitted in Isager Trio 2, Isager Hør Organic, or Isager Uld 1, combined with Silk Mohair. This combination creates a light, vibrant expression with both depth and transparency. The result is a jacket that feels comfortable against the skin and drapes beautifully, whether worn closed or open.

Helga says about the design:
“Fabian Sweater is my first design in ages for men (which of course can be worn by women as well). It was created in collaboration with my son Fabian, who wanted a warm and classic sweater with a well-fitted sweatshirt cut.
The sweater is worked from the top-down in double moss stitch with raglan increases. It has a tightly fitted crewneck and edges in ribbing, finished with Italian cast-off.”

Fabian Sweater is launched in 5 sizes: S – 2XL.

The Tversted Cardigan is a new design by Helga Isager.
With its cropped silhouette, it works as both a cardigan and a shrug, making it perfect to pair with high-waisted trousers or layered over a dress to accentuate the waist.

The shape is simple with set-in sleeves, yet features beautiful details such as the double cable along the front edge and the wide rib cuffs, which make it easy to adjust sleeve length.

The Tversted Cardigan can be knitted in Isager Tvinni combined with Soft Fine.

The pattern is available in six sizes: XS–2XL.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES
The cardigan is worked from the bottom up. The fronts and the back are worked flat, back and forth separately. Stitches are picked up and knitted for the sleeves, which are finished with wide rib cuffs, which can be folded double to adjust the length.
The cardigan has a shawl collar consisting of a double cable which also form the front edges.

As of this summer, ISAGER is Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) certified, Control Union 1282419. Only the products which carry the RMS label and claim are certified. This means that you will now find the Textile Exchange RMS logo on these four new colours in Silk Mohair, as well as on any future lots of existing colours. You will also notice changes in the item names on your invoices, as we gradually transition from non-certified to certified products. For example, Colour 4 will appear as “Isager RMS Silk Mohair 4” on your invoices.

The Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) verifies mohair animal welfare and land management requirements and tracks it from farm to final product. Products certified to the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) contain mohair from farms independently certified to animal welfare and land management requirements.

In addition to RMS certification, we are proud to announce that we also became GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified (CU 1282419) this summer. This means that Isager Hør Organic and Isager Palet Organic from now on will carry the GOTS logo on their labels. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for Organic Fibres including Environmental Criteria, backed up by Third-Party Certification of All Processing Stages.

We have chosen to pursue these certifications to contribute to a more transparent industry – one where products claimed to be organic are proven to be so. While we have had reservations about animal welfare certifications for various reasons, we fundamentally believe that farmers working with sheep or alpacas genuinely care for their animals. Healthy animals produce the best fibers and are the foundation of the farmers’ livelihoods, which motivates them to keep their animals fit and well.
