Construction notes
The scarf is worked flat in a simple pattern of ribbing and cables. It begins with a wide ribbed section, followed by a cable pattern. Partway through, the yarn colour is changed, creating two contrasting halves, and the scarf is finished with a second ribbed section that mirrors the beginning.
The pattern also includes a swatch, allowing you to become familiar with the stitch pattern and experiment with different yarn and colour combinations before knitting the scarf.
Knitting Needles & Chopsticks
This pattern was originally released in Marianne Isager’s book Knitting Needles and Chopsticks.
Knitting Needles & Chopsticks is a book about knitted scarves and shawls in combination with the Japanese cuisine. The knitted shawls and scarves are designed by Marianne Isager who has lived in Japan. In her designs, Marianne has focused on making both sides of the model equally beautiful, so the designs have no wrong side or right side.
The book contains 10 food recipes and 11 knitting patterns for shawls and scarves. The designs are: Fukuoka, Gifu, Kobe, Kyoto, Mashiko, Nagoya, Nara, Osaka, Sapporo, Shimoda, Yokohama.
