MEASUREMENTS

Elf knitted in Isager Tvinni:
Height: approx. 12 1/4 inches (31 cm)
Half waist circumference: approx. 2 3/4 inches (7 cm)

If you would like to make a larger elf, choose a heavier yarn and larger needles, for example Isager Jensen Yarn worked on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles. For a smaller elf, knit it in Isager Spinni on US 0 (2.0 mm) needles. Experiment with the gauge until you achieve a firm fabric, so your elf will keep its shape and perhaps become a helpful little companion – or a mischievous one!

MATERIALS

Approx. 12 g of leftover Isager Tvinni is required for one elf. The elf is worked with one strand throughout.
Color A: Isager Tvinni col. 32 (red)
Color B: Isager Tvinni col. 6s (natural)
Color C: Isager Tvinni col. 0 (white)
Color D: Isager Tvinni col. 10 or col. 61 (light blue or pale pink)

If you wish to knit the elf’s wardrobe and accessories, you will also need:
Color E: Isager Tvinni col. 4s (charcoal grey)
Color F: Isager Tvinni col. 56s (grass green)
Color G: Isager Tvinni col. 8s (brown)

An elf with its complete wardrobe and accessories weighs approximately 73 g in total.

Remember that elves and gnomes are closely related! If you would rather knit gnome, simply use the same pattern and change the colors. For example, choose Isager Tvinni col. 40s or col. 15s for the hat, and you’ll have a little gnome in your hands instead.

Other materials:
Hollow rubber stitch holder cord (or waste yarn)
Stitch markers

For finishing:
Polyester toy stuffing or carded wool
Rice or weighted beads to give the elf enough weight to sit securely. Place the rice in a small fabric bag sewn from an old lightweight shirt or similar fabric.
A small amount of sewing thread or other fine thread for embroidering the eyes and mouth.
A pencil, chopstick or similar tool is useful for distributing the stuffing evenly in the arms and legs. A crochet hook can also be helpful if the arms or legs have been overstuffed – which can happen quite easily.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES

US 1 1/2 (2.5 mm) double-pointed needles, 6 inches (15 cm) long, and optionally 4 inches (10 cm) long. The shorter DPNs can be helpful when knitting the arms and legs.
US 1 1/2 (2.5 mm) circular needle, 24 inches (60 cm) long, for the elf’s little blanket.

GAUGE

Using US 1 1/2 or 2,5 mm needles and Isager Tvinni:
28 sts = 10 cm (4”)
40 rows = 10 cm (4”)

Achieving the correct gauge is essential for the finished result. If your knitting is too loose, the elf may become too soft and have difficulty holding its shape once stuffed. The stuffing may also show through if the stitches are too open. I recommend working at a firm gauge to give your elf both character and proper elf-like sturdiness.
The Elf is worked in stockinette stitch.

YARN KIT

It is not possible to order a yarn kit for this project. We recommend knitting Isager Elf with yarn scraps you have lying around.
