ABOUT THE DESIGN
Helga Isager came up with the idea for this skirt on her visit to Japan. Garments with ribbed details seemed to be everywhere, and she found it interesting that you can emphasize shape in such a simple way. The staggered rib reminds her of Japanese Zen gardens such as the famous Ryōan-ji temple garden in Kyoto.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
The skirt is worked from the top down, making it very easy to adjust the length. After the folded edge at the waist, Japanese short rows are worked to make the back of the skirt longer, providing a better fit. The skirt has beautiful rib details created by working increases and staggering the rib.
Please note that the measurements given in the pattern are for the finished skirt. The skirt is made to be close fitting and it is designed to have 1 1/2-2 1/4″ / 4-6 cm of negative ease, meaning it is designed to be 1 1/2-2 1/4″ / 4-6 cm smaller than your body measurements.
The skirt is knitted in Isager Sock Yarn which contains 20% recycled nylon, this prevents the skirt from growing out of shape during wear.
The slit can be worn on the back or on the side.
