JÖKULL

Jökull is the Icelandic word for glacier. At the mouth of the glacier, the ice is full of stripes comprised of earth and ash.

CONSTRUCTION

The sweater is knitted from the bottom up with a small slit on the right side of the
bottom edge of the Front. At the bottom of the Back, short rows are worked. Sleeves are knitted outwards from the armhole. There is no chart for the stripe pattern. The stripes are done in a somewhat free-form style. On the RS, there are always more knit stitches in the stripes than purl stitches. While knitting, the appearance of the RS of the sweater must be kept in mind. The rows with stripes should not be identical and should not become too large. Thus, these fields of stripes are “controlled” by using purl stitches to break up the visual appearance of the stripe. The swatch shows an example of how the Silk Mohair is worked within the sweater. While making the swatch, pay attention to how the purl stitches interact with the knit stitches.
