ULDENS HUS (The House of Wool)

A small spinning mill with big ambitions to explore Danish wool and its potential.

ABOUT ULDENS HUS

In collaboration with local shepherd and sheep shearer, Kasper Ledet Hansen, we continuously work to improve the quality of the wool, while producing wonderful yarns from the wool of his sheep and lambs. Our ambition is to gain as much knowledge about the wool and the logistics of collecting Danish wool, that it can be used by larger spinning mills and be part of the Isager woolen yarns in the future.

At the same time, we wish to tell the story about the wool as part our wardrobes. The magnificent capabilities of wool and how to treat it the best possible way.

The machinery is delivered by Belfast Mini Mills in Canada with financial support from LAG.

TOURS

Get a tour of the mini spinning mill at Uldens Hus. On the tour you can learn about the different fibers we use to make knitting yarn, and you can see the entire process from washing the wool, processing the fibers in the various machines to the final winding of the yarn into skeins.

YARN FROM ULDENS HUS

In the little spinning mill in Uldens Hus we make yarn from local wool and our own alpacas. We have tested various fiber combinations and spinning method, to create yarns that both feel good and work well with knitting. The result is a line of unique qualities that can be used in many different projects.

PLANT DYEING

All the yarns from Uldens Hus are undyed and are therefore especially suited for plant dyeing. The qualities are found in various natural shades, depending on the amount of dark fibres in the wool. This adds a beautiful colour play and depth to the yarn, when dyed.

YARN FROM ULDENS HUS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE CLASSIC ISAGER YARNS

Do you have a pattern where you wish to swap the classic Isager yarns with yarn from Uldens Hus? Below you will find a list of how the yarns can be switched. Please note: the list should only be viewed as guidance; one should always knit a sample to make sure that the gauge fits.

The yarns from Uldens Hus can be bought in the Isager shop in Tversted and online in our webshop. In the shop in Tversted you have plenty of opportunity to see and try on models knitted with the yarns; this is a good way to get a sense of the structure and feel of the yarn before starting your own project.
