TEACHERS

HELGA JÓNA THÓRUNNARDÓTTIR

Helga Jóna graduated as a needlework teacher from the Textile Seminar in Skals in 2005 and currently teaches knitting and embroidery at the Skals College of Design and Handicraft. We are fortunate that Helga also teaches several courses at Isager in Tversted.

In addition to her daily work at Skals, Helga designs knitting patterns, gives lectures and workshops in Denmark and Iceland, and together with Helga Isager, she has published the book Handcraft. She also organizes inspiring knitting trips to Iceland.

Visit Helga’s webshop (www.strikketoj.com), where you will find her knitting patterns and instructional videos for a variety of knitting techniques.

HELGA ISAGER

Helga Isager owns and runs the company Isager together with Marianne Isager. With her brand Amimono, she has helped renew knitting as both a craft and a fashion phenomenon since 2005. Her ability to place traditional knitting techniques in a contemporary context, combined with her curious exploration of the endless possibilities hidden in a ball of yarn and a pair of needles, has particularly resonated with a younger audience.

Over the years, Helga Isager has taught numerous courses and given lectures around the world, and she has also served as a guest teacher at Skals – the Danish College of Design and Handicraft.

Helga Isager studied Japanese language and culture at the University of Copenhagen, and she still has a deep interest in Japan, which she visits regularly. She is the author of several knitting books, published both in Denmark and internationally.

Tversted Skole

TVERSTED SCHOOL

Tversted School was originally built in 1954 but closed as a public school in 2015. The buildings were subsequently taken over by the yarn company Isager. Part of the former school is now used for administration and yarn storage, several of the classrooms are rented out to craft artists, and the former kindergarten has been converted into a yarn shop. Throughout the year, a variety of inspiring events and courses are held here, including knitting, weaving, spinning, papermaking, sewing, and much more.
