PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Originally, Isager Jensen Yarn was named ÅLJ after knitwear designer Åse Lund Jensen. In the 1960s, Åse Lund Jensen sold handknitted sweaters, she knitted in a heavy Swedish yarn. The heavy weight of the finished garments made shipping costs outside Denmark much too expensive, and this led to a new cooperation between Åse Lund Jensen and the Danish spinning mill, Henrichsens Uldspinderi in Skive. Together, they developed a lighter 3-ply yarn, ÅLJ and introduced it in a new natural colour range which Isager is still the base for our Jensen Yarn, Spinni and Tvinni.

The white wool origins from New Zealand, and the brown and grey wools used for the s-colours origin from Gotland sheep in Europe. The supplier in New Zealand is a brand partner of the Wool Integrity programme that ensures that the principels under this programme such as an animal welfare, environmental sustainability and tracability are met. Jensen yarn is chemically dyed but based on the colour range of natural dyes, Åse Lund Jensen chose for her yarn. The colours 0, 0s, 2s and 3s are undyed and unbleached. All other colours are Oekotex 100 colours from Europe, but since the spinning mill in Skive has not been certified, the product can’t carry the Oekotex 100 label.

As this is a 3-ply yarn, it is a firm and evenly spun yarn well suited for texture knitting as it allows the texture to stand out well. The yarn is very durable and wears out beautifully in the same way as Tvinni. We recommend this yarn especially for indoor and outdoor garments.

Henrichsen’s Wool Mill has for more than 100 years gathered hanks of yarn by hand. Every skein weighs 50 g and in each hank there are two skeins = 100 g.
When removing the label it is easy to divide the hank into two skeins = 2 x 50 g.
In both the Isager shop in Tversted and our webshop (B2C) we are happy to divide the hank for you if do not need more than 50 grams.
NOTE: 1 pcs = 50 grams. The pictures shows hanks of 100 grams.

Collaboration with Camilla Vad

When knitwear designer Camilla Vad chose to fully concentrate on designing, she offered Isager to take over sales of her yarns. It has now been included in our Jensen Yarn colour range, recognized by the number 02, 4M and the numbers from 80 – 99. Most of the colours carrying the 80 – 99 numbers are based on white yarns, that first are dyed black and then overdyed in a second colour to make the special shade. how to wash

Wool should be washed by hand unless you have a washing machine that uses lukewarm water (below 28°Celsius) and has a very gentle wool cycle.

To avoid felting, please observe the following:
Use very little soap and use a wool mark approved detergent. Be careful to keep the same temperature during the entire washing and rinsing process (not above 28°Celsius). After washing and rinsing place the garment in a washing bag and spin it lightly in a washing machine. Then place the garment flat on towel and leave to dry.

Woolen garments do not necessarily need washing very often. Airing outside in damp weather will often be sufficient. Yarns from cotton and yarns made from mixed fibres containing flax and bamboo could be washed in warm water, but still we recommend the same washing instructions as for wool.

how to store

Always store yarn and knitwear in a plastic bag or densely woven cotton bag.
The insecticides available can have side effects and might cause allergic reactions and are therefore not advisable to use. Furthermore, a treatment with insecticides will last for approximately 3 months and will be washed out in the first washing.
