Construction

The top is worked back and forth. First the back is worked from the bottom up. After the rib hem edge, stitches are increased evenly and the pattern is worked following the chart with 1 garter knot edge stitch at each end of the needle. At the bottom of the armholes the outermost stitches at each end of the needle start to be worked in rib. These stitches are then set aside to rest, while short rows are worked to create the slope of the shoulders. After this the rib stitches are knitted together with the shoulder stitches, and the stitches for the back of the neck are bound off.
Stitches are then picked up and knitted along the rib stitches for the shoulders, the neckline is shaped and the front is worked back and forth and finished with a rib hem edge. The top is sewn together along the side edges using mattress stitch.
