If a snug bottom band is desired, use a 3 mm needle.
Cast on 132 (152, 172) stitches using one strand of each yarn held together and begin with a WS row.
Row 1 (WS): K1, P1, *K2, P4, K2, P2* repeat from * to * 12 (14, 16) times and end the row with K2, P4, K2, P1, K1.
Row 2 (RS): *K2, P2, K4, P2*. Repeat from * to * and end the row with K2.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 and switch to 3.5 mm needles.


Or, one could also begin directly with the cables using 3.5 mm needle.

Row 8 (RS): *K2, P2, left-leaning cable, P2* repeat from * to * and end the row with K2.
Repeat Rows 1 through 8 until the work measures 7 cm in length. Then, in every 8th row with the RS facing, add one new stitch (M1L) after the first two stitches and add one new stitch (M1R) before the last two stitches of the row. These increase rows will add 8 stitches at each side and these new stitches will be worked in ribbing pattern as follows:
